What Are You Hungry For?

Mat 5:6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are they which do hunger.  Think about those words.  God says you are blessed if you are hungry.  I don’t know about you, but when I am hungry I get a little crabby, my patience is greatly diminished, and my tolerance is on life support.  God is not saying that it is blessed to be crabby or irritable, but rather it is blessed to be hungry to the point that you are motivated to action.

Have you ever eaten when you were not hungry?  You probably did not eat much.  And to say the least you probably did not enjoy your meal.  Hunger does something to us that makes us appreciate things better; it boosts my enjoyment factor by a lot.  Have you ever noticed that the food always seems to taste better when you are hungry?  Why is that?  It may be because our senses may be hightened or that we are thinking about it more, but I believe when we hunger for something we will fulfill that desire.

Have you ever made your children eat something when they were not hungry? Their reaction is not fun to deal with, is it?  We are the same way when we do not hunger and thirst after righteousness.  God is probably looking down from heaven and watching us throw a fit because we don’t like to go to church or read our Bibles or pray or do anything that is righteous.  Last question, What are you hungry for?
