Weekday devotionals for Christians

God Wants You-part 2

Matthew 11:28

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

In the last devotional we talked about Jesus wanting you to come, today I want to talk about who Jesus was talking to.

Jesus was giving out a command to two different types of people.  The first group is to the ones that are laboring.  It is in the present tense, that means that this group is currently laboring.  Have you ever met someone that seems to not have any care in the world?  I am talking about a christian who might seem like nothing wrong happens to them; they are never tired, weary, frustrated, or at their wits end.  We, on the other hand, are just trying to keep our heads above water (it seems like it) because life is so busy.  While some people hide what is happening in their life, this person (who acts like something is wrong with you because you are weary) seems to look at you like you are being punished for laboring for Christ.  Jesus does not feel that way toward you at all.  HE UNDERSTANDS.  Stop and think about that thought…He understands!  All He wants you to do is to Come unto Me.  When life gets its busiest, remember to make time for Jesus, for in Him you will get the only one who can truly give you rest.

This verse also addresses the “heavy laden”.  These words describe those people who are fully burdened down in life.  Their schedule may be busy, but that is not what is so heavy.  The heaviness comes from pressure, and from tremendous responsibility.  It feels like the weight of the world is resting on your chest to the point that you feel that you cannot get another breath.  Guess what, Jesus wants to give you rest!  He knows exactly what you are going through.

He knows exactly what it feels like to have so many people need Him.  He has felt the weight of the world on his shoulders and knows what it is like to be questioned by the ones you love.  The true rest that we are seeking can only be found in JESUS!  So what are you waiting for?  Jesus is right where you left Him.  Come to Him and He is waiting and will give you rest!!
