Weekday devotionals for Christians

A New Yoke

Mat 11:29-30

29-Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30-For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

In the previous devotionals we talked about Jesus wanting those that labour and are heavy laden to come to Him, today I want to talk about what we are to do after we get the rest that we are needing.

The first thing that we are supposed to do is to take His yoke upon me.  The “yoke” that Jesus is referring to is the vehicle by which you carry your burdens.  I am reminded of my school days when I had to carry a lot of books.  Whether they were text books, notebooks, or other things like pens, pencils.  In order to carry those books I had to stack them high and walk carefully, hoping that no one bumped into me.  But because it was me, I would usually be knocked into  where there were the most people and the most movement.  Then my books would be kicked every where, papers stepped on, pencils and pens broken, and more.  Then I am losing what little dignity I had by crawling all over the floor trying to minimize the damage that is being done.

Happy day for me when I received a yoke by which to carry my load…you guessed it, a back-pack.  No longer would I have my load knocked over, kicked, or stepped-on.  The load would be on my back zipped-up tightly and secure.  I also had a yoke that had padding on the arm straps to cushion my lode.

When Jesus says to “take my yoke upon you”, He is not wanting to burden you down with more load, but rather give you a better way to carry that which already are carrying.  God said that His load would be easy and light.  When we come to Jesus, He not only will give us a rest, but also give us a new way to carry what we are carrying for Him.  I wonder if there is someone reading this that is weary.  Weary from doing things their way.  To you, Jesus says to “come unto me”.  Not only will he give you rest, but also give you a better way to carry what you are carrying.  I want to challenge you to make going to Jesus a daily happening.  You will be glad that you did!

I hope you have a good week and pray that God blesses all that you do!
