Weekday devotionals for Christians

Faith or Fear

Psalms 34:19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Psalms 34:20  He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

God, who sees all, is assuring us of many things in these past few verses.  Let’s stop there and think about the first statement.  We are very limited in what we can see and sense, thanks to the curse that was put on man in the Garden of Eden.  If you are saved, you have Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit with you everyday, all day long.  I am sealed with the Holy Spirit, but God’s eyes, love, attention, etc… is on me all the time.  OK, so what is my point?  It is this, Satan CAN NOT, let me repeat that…CAN NOT do anything to us without God’s permission.

God knows what is coming down our path.  He literally can see it coming.  We on the other hand, have blinded eyes to the spiritual realm of this world.  We cannot see what Satan is trying to do to hurt us.  Be very glad for this.  Maybe you are familiar with the statement, “ignorance is bliss.”  In this case, that statement is true.  My flesh wants to know what will happen in advance so I can plan around it.  But remember that I can not control what happens in my life, no matter how hard I try.  I can only control what my response and reaction will be.  If we saw what Satan tries to do to us, I believe it would really scare us into not doing great things for God.

As we are told in verse 19 about our many afflictions, we are also assured of God’s deliverence from them.  Satan tries and tries to stop us by using his evil weapons.  One of those weapons is fear.  Satan is very good at using fear.  He realizes that the only one that can stop you…is you.  He can’t stop you.  Why, because we have God’s promise of deliverance in verse 20.  That is why fear is used so much.  If we get our focus off of God and His protection, then Satan is very close to us stopping or quitting.  God also says that He will “keep” our bones.  That means to put a hedge around them for protection.  The same type of hedge He put around Job.  We are so loved and so protected by God it truly is Awesome!  Your faith will be strengthened to do more for God as you keep your focus on Him and His protection.

Romans 10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Last question, where will you keep your focus on, God or satanic fear?
