My Heart is Talking

Pro 1:8  My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Pro 1:9  For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

We see here an example of a father continually reaching out to his child, his son.  The Father is constantly reminding his son to hear instruction.  More importantly, he is reaching out to his son’s heart and continually drawing it close to him. That is the thing that is most important with any type of training, teaching, or child rearing.  With all of that said, even Solomon had to say, ” son, pay attention”, “listen-up”, “look at me”, “are you listening to me?”  Why do I point this out?  Because I get so frustrated with always having to make that type of statement to my children.  What ever statement you make, how ever you make it; even the wisest man ever to live had to make that statement to his son (I hope that encourages you).  By the way, how old was his son?  No one really knows how hold his son was at this point, He could have been 10 or 20 or 30.

The writer is affirming his son of the benefits of listening to and following his parents instruction in verse 9.  Notice also the next verse.  My son if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.  Here we have a mom and dad battling with the wrong crowd over their son’s heart.  Look at what they did.  They did not confront the wrong crowd, because the fool is not worth their time…but their son is:

Pro 26:4  Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

They reached out for their son’s heart instead of confronting “his friends”.  The fool does not have enough wisdom to understand what is needed, that is why the parents will not waste their time on the fool, because the fool has a funny way of bringing out the worst in people.  What will you do with the heart of your child?  Did you know that God is reaching out for your heart?  He does not care about the fools, He cares about you!  He wants your heart, because He wants you!  He wants you to have the blessed life.  That life will not come from the sinners, it will only come from listening to your heavenly daddy!  Listen closely, can you hear His heart?
