Don’t Hate Me For This

Gen 6:6  And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Gen 6:5  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Pro 23:7  For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

I talked last week about our thoughts.  I want to expound on those thoughts and bring more clarity to what I believe the above verses are talking about.

God destroyed the earth and everyone that lived on it because every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  The following are some thoughts on this verse:

1. Every imagination is very important to God.  I believe the imagination is dealing with our entertainment.  I like Star Trek: The Next Generation T.V. Show.  I like science and the possibilities that it can bring.  I like outer space and the immensity of it.  Star Trek would fit in the category of my imagination.  I do realize that the show has finished making new episodes a long time ago, but  it is a good illustration.

2. Of the thoughts of his heart: this is what goes on inside us that no one can see…except God.

3. Only evil continually:  This means that wickedness is what ruled on their imagination…all the time.  I believe their entertainment may have started out simple to them, but before they knew it, their thoughts progressed into an “all-the-time” evil occurrence.

OK, OK so what am I getting at?  Here it is, the jelly on the bottom shelf.  If a real, live witch came up to you and asked you to participate in witch craft, would you do it?  Probably not, right?  Well, we may not think so, but when we watch that kind of stuff on TV, Movies, or in our video games and do nothing about it, we are participating with them in their evil.  YOU’RE Crazy!!  I know you may think that about me, but I will tell you that God did not destroy the earth and every man and beast in it because of evil actions, He did it because of  evil thoughts and imaginations.  When someone watches a movie about vampires, werewolves, and black magic like David Blane and they do nothing to turn it off or denounce it, then they are partakers with them.  They might as well have done it in front of you.

When you watch a movie, do you ever talk about it later?  Probably.  When someone watches a “love story” (blah!!!) about a shape-changing werewolf / man, do you think about it later…yes?  I am not perfect.  I am not trying to throw a stone at anyone.  I do not even know who will read this.  I am trying to sound a warning to everyone that reads this about how crafty and sly the devil is.  Remember, satan got Adam and Eve to sin in a perfect environment.  He is very good at his craft.  Please do not be fooled by Him.  I hope you take this as a sincere warning from me to you…whomever you are that needs this.

As He Thinketh In His Heart

Gen 6:6  And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

The above verse uses some very strong words when it comes to a loving God.  Can you imagine the one person that epitomizes love and grace and forgiveness making the statement that He regrets you ever being born?  When I think of God, what quickly comes to my mind is love, mercy, compassion, etc…but let’s not think that this sums up God.  He is so awesome and intricate that no one can know the mind of God.  So my question still stands, “What makes God say that He regrets   making man?”  The answer is found in the verse 5.

Gen 6:5  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

At first glance a person might think that there was an action done that would make God that mad, but according to verse 5, what caused God’s outrage was actually every thought and imagination of man was only evil continually.  That may not seem like a “game-changer” for most people, but to God it is.  In fact, He decided to change all of mankind right then with the flood.  I would take a guess and say that God cares about what we think!  God puts high importance on what we think and imagine!  Imagine That!  Here is another verse on thinking

Pro 23:7  For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

God hates it when we think on things that are evil.  I didn’t say that we have evil thoughts toward some and want them to hurt, but when we dwell on evil thinking like witchcraft and vampires and werewolfs and immoral and adulterous people and acts.  I don’t know who reads this so I don’t know anything about your life to meddle, but I want to say that what we think about is very important to our God….what do you think about in your spare time?

Did You Take It Back, Or Does He Still Have It?

Psa 34:17  The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

Psa 34:18  The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psa 34:19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Psa 34:20  He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

Psa 34:21  Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.

Psa 34:22  The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

As I said yesterday, the central theme to this chapter is God’s protection for the righteous.  I do want to point something out; part of God’s protection of the righteous is allowing the wicked to be slayed.  In verse 21, the wicked will be slayed by the very weapon they are using to destroy the righteous.

The goal of the wicked is to hurt or slay the righteous, but what they fail to realize is that the weapon that they are putting their trust in or “faith” in to do the damage is something that will turn on them.  Whether or not they realize it, everyone puts their faith in something.  The wicked get misled into thinking that they can trust something that has a degree, (whether small or great, it does not matter)

of evil in it.  Their pride fools them into thinking that they can “handle it.”  When it is all said and done, the “Evil shall slay the wicked.”  The word “slay” means to kill.  If you think about it, the way of the wicked will always end up in death.

Every christian should get as far away from evil as possible.  The christians who do evil things even as a response, will experience the repercussions of the evil way.  This is one of the reasons why God does not want you and me to sink down to the position of the wicked one.  This is why it is important to watch what we say and watch what we do.  God said He will take care of the wicked if we let Him.  If you want the wicked, that are making life hard on you, to have it easy then you try to retaliate and lash out at them.  But if you let God handle it, He will make sure it is done right, and you won’t have to worry about being punished for doing evil things.  The hardest things in life are not retaliating when the wicked try to hurt you.  Remember, the eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.  Don’t put your faith and trust in your own devices, put your faith in the care of the One who loves you…the Lord Jesus!

Give It To God

There is a central theme in this entire chapter.  Do you know what it is? God’s protection for the righteous and non-protection for the wicked.  Many things are stated in this chapter concerning God’s divine protection, many of which seem to be separate from God’s divine protection.  If you allow God, He will teach you how inter-connected they really are.  For instance, in verses 13-16 God admonishes us to not participate in the evil actions of the unrighteous.  Why, because He punishes evil doings.  If you are a part of evil doings in a retaliation manner, He will have to punish you instead of caring for you.

We should instead go straight to God and cry to Him.  That is what He wants.  Our children know this principle and use it well with us.  I remember growing up in a house of 5 kids.  I am the youngest.  That means that I had 1 nice sibling and 3 evil siblings (or that is how I felt a lot of times).  My only defense against my 2 older brother’s meanness was screaming out to mom or dad.  While this was not very masculine to do, I was more concerned with my survival at that moment than my present state of masculinity.  All we have to do to have the evil taken care of is cry out to God.  You know, as I look back on those years growing up, the only ones tried to get me not to cry to mom and dad, were the ones that were trying to hurt me.  Satan is the same way, he wants you to think that you can handle this hardship or evil doings on your own.  God says, “Let Me handle this and it will be handled right!”  God will come riding in like your hero if you let Him, but YOU have to let Him.

What About Me?

Isa 66:1  Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

I hope this finds everyone well as I am trying to get fully back into the normal routine with everything that I am involved with.  I have missed the last two monday’s devotionals and I apologize for that.  I started this journey into writing devotionals about one year ago as I met someone that help me put into devotional form what the Lord has been putting on my heart for a long time.  Thank you to Edwin Raybert (ha ha) Newmans as he nudged me in the right direction and has answered countless questions when it comes to the internet and the blog formats that I have used.  I have enjoyed doing these devotionals as the Lord has also used them in my life.  I know of atleast one person who is getting encouraged and challenged by these devotionals…me.  If these can be a blessing to you also, then praise the Lord.  I do appreciate you reading this as I try to put into words the “scattered and sometimes chaotic ideas” that swirl around in my head.  Thank you to those who consistently read these and pass them along to others, you are truly a blessing to me!

Today’s thought comes from a verse that jumped out at me a while back in my devotionals and would not let me go.  I get really challenged by the Lord on this verse because I spend a lot of time trying to take care of my own family and life.  While I am for a man or woman taking care of their own family, I get reminded that a priority in my life is God’s place.  God, Jesus Christ, should have ultimate priority and a prominent place in my heart…His Home.

Here is the thought, while we go about our lives, is God in the forefront of your life?  While I take care of my children, do I speak of Him to them?  When I tell my wife how important and special she is to me (we should do that), and she is very important to me; do I also tell God that He is THE MOST IMPORTANT?  When I love on my beautiful little girls, do I love on God like I should.  When I drop everything to take care of their emergencies, do I drop things that I want to do to show God He is important?  I wish I could say yes to all of those other questions, but one thing I can do is to work on it and 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year from now I want to be able to answer yes a lot more than I answer yes now.  How about you?  What would your answers be.  By the way, there are a lot more questions that can be asked, if you sit down and let the Holy Spirit show you the questions.

The Other Tree

Joh 19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
Joh 19:18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
Joh 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Lesson #9

The tree must be watered in order to last through the season.

Lesson #10

The tree is decorated by it’s owner and has no choice in what is put on it.

Lesson #11

The Decorator knows what ornament or decorations to use to cover up the “gaps, imperfections, and blemishes” on the tree to make the tree look as if there was nothing wrong with the tree at all!

Lesson #12

The Christmas tree is decorated with lights for others to see when it is dark.

Lesson #13

Gifts are customarily at the foot of the Tree.

Lesson #14

The Most Important Decoration goes on top of the tree for all to see.

Lesson#15

There is one more Tree that I would like to talk about, and that is the tree that was used for our Saviour to die on.  This Tree:

-Took a tremendous amount of work to get ready for its purpose

-It was a different type of tree

-Had a much different purpose

-Was the most important tree of all time

It is the Cross that my Saviour was crucified on.  You see, you and I were the reasons why Jesus died on the cross.  He didn’t want to die, but did it because He and the Father loved us so much!  For a person to reject Christ as the only way to Heaven, is to make the cross void in their life.  God is a Jealous God and He does not like His only Begotten Son being taken for granted, voided out of our life, and made of no effect.  If you are not saved through the ONLY WAY to Heaven, then today can be that day for you.  You must simply:

1. Realize that you are a sinner:

 Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Because we sin, we come short of going to Heaven on our own, something supernatural has to happen.

2. There is a punishment for our sin:

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Because we sin, there is a punishment…death.  We all are going to die eventually.  It could be in the car today or tomorrow, or it can be when we are 80 years old and gray headed.  We WILL die someday!

Now, put step one and step two together and we find out that a sinner is going to die and they cannot go to Heaven!  I do not like this part, but it is still true.  Hard truth is still true, just because truth can be hard, the truth does not become void because it is hard.  Everyone must deal with this issue or this issue will deal you to Hell.

3. God made a supernatural way to Heaven for you and me….guess what, it is a gift!  This is the Good Part!

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God has a gift for you and me and it is eternal life in Heaven, All you have to do to receive that Gift is to accept it.  That is it, just take it!

4. You must ask in Faith to receive the Gift!

Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

In order to receive that Gift you must:

1. Ask Jesus to Save you

2. Ask in Faith.  With out faith it is impossible to please God.  You cannot earn it, you will never become perfect from doing good.  God never will ask you to do something that you can not do!  And you cannot earn your way to Heaven!  You must do what the Bible says and that is putting all of your faith in going to Heaven in Jesus Christ only !  Jesus really is the way!  He is the only way!

Salvation does not cost me or you anything, it’s cost can only be paid by Jesus Christ!  Will you make today the day of salvation?  I hope you do!  If you do, please reply to me and let me know!

He’s on the Top

2Pe 1:19  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Generally speaking, everyone stops and watches as the tree gets crowned with the last and most important thing that is on the tree.

Application

The Daystar in the above verses is referring to Christ.  He should be the most important thing and person in our life.  What is the most important thing in your life?  We normally answer Jesus, but often what is really the top thing in our life is shown by our actions.  It is shown by what we do when we get a chance to do what we want to do.  Jesus is more than just something we do on Sunday, He should be our life, our Daystar, and He should be what our lives are crowned with!

Be a Little Jesus!

1Jn 3:16  Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1Jn 3:17  But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

Mat 25:40  And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

You know how it works: Beautifully Wrapped, Wonderful  presents are waiting to be opened (so that they can be pushed aside so the boxes can be played with..ha ha) at the foot of the tree.

Application

We are supposed to live a life of selflessness and we need to be looking for ways to meet the needs of others.  My grandmother always took this opportunity to meet the need of me opening up “under garments” in front of everyone there!  I have always wondered what she was thinking as she was shopping for that particular “need”.

We should be looking for the opportunities to be a “little Jesus” to others.  When was the last time that you looked for a need to fill from someone other than family?  I know of some people who do this, and I know that God blesses them for it!  Are you that type of person?  If not, why don’t you become someone like that?  It is a wonderful and sacrificial life that can only be experienced by meeting the needs of others!  I want to challenge you to do this on a weekly basis.  If a need is presented to you from God and you are able to meet it, then step out on faith and be a “little Jesus”!  Try it, regardless of any possible return or blessing that can come back to you.  Living a life of selflessness is something that we Americans need to do more of…starting with me.  We all should ask God to present a need to us to fulfill.  These needs can vary from giving:

-encouragement,

-a listening ear,

-financial,

-advice,

-time, etc…

Will you be a little Jesus?

Christmas Lights

Mat 5:14  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mat 5:16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Lesson #8

The tree must be placed in a good, solid tree stand.

This is part of the decorations.  The lights illuminate the tree and the decorations when it is dark out.

Application

We are supposed to be a light to a very spiritually dark world.  We are not commanded to “fit in”, but rather to stand 0ut like a light.  We are supposed to be totally different than those that are around us!  We should not be antagonistic about our differences, but rather our differences should illuminate what God has done in our lives.  Let me ask you a question, are you a light to the lost and dying world that we live in?  Can others get light from your testimony of what God has done in your life?  God wants everyone to see what He has done in your life!  Others can not see what He has done if we are constantly trying to fit in with the unsaved crowd.  We are supposed to be different in everything that we do, the music we listen to should be different, the places we go should be different, the habits or hobbies should be different, how we handle stress should be different, and Who we run to in time of need should be different.  One word that should summarize our life is “light”.  Our light should be helpful for others to find the way to Jesus!  How about your light?  Is it bright?  Is it there?  Can others see it?  The only one that can stop your light from shining is you!
