God…Who’s That?

Joshua 24:31  And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.

Judges 2:8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
Judges 2:9 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.
Judges 2:10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

Ok, so this was my original thought when I came across these passages:  Look at verse 10; this is yet another sad statement in the Bible.  Verse 10 explains why God refers to Israel as a harlot.  Israel, the bride that Christ gave himself for, continues to walk away from God and forsakes Him.  She was very unfaithful to the Lord as she kept turning away from Him.  I used to get very upset and frustrated because they were so unfaithful to Him, but I realize that I am no better than they are.

Why would Israel continue to walk away from God?  I don’t know exactly why, but I have an idea.  It is :

1. There arose another generation that knew not the Lord, nor His mighty works.  If we are going to further the Kingdom of God, then we MUST raise up another generation that will know the Lord.  This is so important to the furthering of the Gospel.  Where were the parents?  Where was the training that was so desperately needed by that next generation?  Why did the next generation grow up without their lives being centered around Christ?  If our children are going to turn out right for the Lord, it will not happen on accident! They will not magically have a heart to serve the Lord.   Serving the Lord and loving our Dear Saviour comes by deliberate action.

to be continued…
