The One Who Holds our Soul

Psalms 66:8-9
(8)  O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
(9)  Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.

What an Awesome God!  The God who created all of the world and everything within and without with the sound of His voice has chosen to tell us, yet in another way, how much He loves and values us.   He tells us in verse 9 that He holds our soul!  This verse is yet another verse that assures us that once a person receives the eternal Gift from God, they are always saved!  I know, I know… that is hard to believe, but let me assure you of a few things:

  1. If you believe that the Bible is the Word of God
  2. If you trust that, what God says in His Word, is true
  3. If you have freely received the Gift of Eternal Life (it is from Jesus, not from good works, church, a warm/fuzzy feeling, etc…) ….see below
  4. If you have asked Jesus to save you from Hell and the punishment of your sin and only trust in Jesus to take you to Heaven
  5.  Then the Great God that formed everything is now holding your soul!

What a great thought!  God cares enough about you in this great expansive and populated world that He will take care of YOU!…well, this entire chapter is great, but let me point out a few things in regards to this chapter:

Look at verse 1 and 2:

Psalms 66:1-10
(1) To the chief Musician, A Song or Psalm. Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
(2) Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.

We are instructed to make a joyful noise unto God. That means to shout a joyful noise to God. That might initially sound weird to today’s culture, but if we really stop and think about it, we will understand that it really is right in line with what we already do.
Have you ever heard a song while you were driving or riding in a car, that you totally lost yourself in it?  I realize that there are some that are not into music as much as others, but for those who are…

Have you every been lost in a song that you were singing out loud? Maybe you were the only one in the car (which usually helps) so singing out was not embarrassing to you at all. But maybe, while you were at a stop light, you looked over and caught someone watching you sing. They may have even laughed too; even though you were a little embarrassed, you didn’t care because you were having a great time.
THAT IS WHAT VERSE 1 IS TALKING ABOUT!!!! God is not going to grade you or your voice on quality or range. He loves to hear His children sing, just as a parent cherishes the voice of their young child! God gave you your voice, so please know that He wanted you to have it. It matters not if you like the sound of your voice, God does! When you make a joyful noise unto the Lord, you will get His attention!  He likes your praise so much, that the Bible says:

Psalms 22:3
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

We know that Israel in the O.T. is a picture of God’s people.  God loves to hear you praise Him.  So when you are stressed, worried, anxious, or afraid, one of the best things for you is to praise His Holy Name!  You should try it.  Sing out to God the next time you are down; you might even need to sing 2 songs or more.  When you praise God, you just might be surprised as to what benefits come your way!

Psalms 43:5
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
