Weekday devotionals for Christians

Run For Your Lives!

Psalms 71:1-8
(1) In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.
(2) Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.
(3) Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.
(4) Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
(5) For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.
(6) By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother’s bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.
(7) I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge.
(8) Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.

One of the best things any christian can do in times of stress, hardship, or hurt is to run to God and the Bible. Run to God in prayer…vs. 2. And run to the Bible to help keep your mind in a peaceful place….vs 3…also look at this:

Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

I believe that it is a natural reaction from all humans to run in distressful times. Running is not always bad, as long as you run the right direction. If we run TO GOD, then we will be secure and taken care of. If we run AWAY FROM GOD, then we will be left to our own devices. There might be some great devices out there, but nothing will take care of a Christian better than the Lord Jesus! You can take my word for it! I have been in enough situations in my life, to prove that God will keep you and protect you if you run to Him.

Running to Him is not and should not be, a 1 time thing. It should be a constant thing…daily thing…consistent thing.

Jude 1:21
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Notice in the above verse that the responsibility rests on you to stay in God’s love. Why would it be this way? Because God will not force Himself on you. He wants you to come to Him willingly. In staying with the Lord, you can be assured that God will reign over the affairs of your life and it will all work out according to His will…which is the best for anyone and everyone! Also, that word “Keep” is talking about protecting…just like a “goal keeper” would protect the goal in soccer. The goal keeper gives his entire energy to protecting the “net”. We need to give it our entire energy as well, so that we can avoid the things that will draw us away from God and toward bitterness, hard feelings, and rebellion.
