Weekday devotionals for Christians

A Teachable Moment

John 9:1-7
(1) And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
(2) And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
(3) Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
(4) I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
(5) As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
(6) When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
(7) And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

I will do a few devotionals on this story in John 9; and today will continue on with point #2

Here we see Jesus healing a blind man and I would like to point out a few interesting things concerning this:

1. The man never asked Jesus to heal him.

2. The man’s healing was used for 2 main reasons: A. To glorify God. It is vitally important for us to give God glory in our lives! Even though this man did not ask for healing, he still wanted it and appreciated it when he received it (I will show you later on in the chapter). The good things that happen in our lives come from Jesus! That is a statement that is based on faith in God. Just like this man received life changing healing without asking God for it, we receive good things from Jesus on a regular basis…Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. Psalms 68:19. Notice in the beginning of the verse that the writer is giving God glory for daily benefits? We need to do the same as well. Do you glorify God for the good things in your life?

B. To demonstrate that as the Son of God, only Jesus has the power heal. Jesus wanted to use this time to teach His disciples more about Himself. Jesus has all the answers to our needs. The main reason that Jesus performed miracles on the earth was to show all people, that Jesus is the Son of God! If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. (John 9:33).

I go to doctors, but my trust is not in them. I get advice from counselors, but my trust is not in their wisdom. My trust is in the Lord. He is the One that will guide me in all truth! He can guide me to the right person for advice or the right doctor for healing. Jesus can heal me all by Himself if He chooses to do so. I believe that He has answered many of my prayers in both healing and wisdom. We should go to Him first before we go to any man for help or advice.

What do you trust? Who do you trust? Those are important questions for all of us to answer. Our actions, believe it or not, will answer those questions. Do you ask God to guide you in all truth? Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. John 16:13. Let me encourage you today to trust only in Jehovah God (Jesus). Go to doctors and go to counselors, but above all trust in God!
