Weekday devotionals for Christians

Walking With My Jesus

Continued from yesterday…

Romans  6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Walking is (I have been told) some of the best exercise that we can do.  I am not a fitness expert so I have to trust the experts when they say that walking is good for you and me.  I actually enjoy walking, as long as I am with my family.  I like to walk with them and talk to them.  Usually me and my wife walk while the girls ride their bikes.  Another reason why I like walking is that I get to multi-task.  I like multi-tasking!  In fact, I really dislike it when I can’t.  I like the ability and the thought of getting multiple things done at the same time!  Sometimes this can hurt me because I try to do too much and drop the ball on all the things that I try to accomplish.

1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

When I walk with God, many things happen:

1. I walk with someone who has never sinned.

2. I walk with someone who loves me.  This brings comfort to me.  Jesus loves me, why?  Because He does.  I don’t need a reason why He loves me, I am just glad that He eternally loves me no matter what I do.  He wants us to know that we can always come back to Him no matter how bad it gets for us.

3. I exercise with the Lord.  One thing that I have learned is that a muscle needs to be exercised to remain strong.  Muscles will lose mass if they are not exercised.  Spiritually, I need to exercise also.  I need to exercise my faith muscle in God.  When I exercise, I may get a little tired now, but it will build up my endurance so that my faith won’t waiver in the Lord.

4. I walk.  I do not run, jog, or sprint; I walk.  God wants us to walk in newness of life.  Walking is a pace that, while it may be slow, it progresses at a sustainable rate.  So many people can “jump out” to an early lead, but fizzle after a while because they do something that is not sustainable.  I also notice that my walking “cadence” is different than others cadence.  I walk a lot faster than my wife and children.  I should not try to use my cadence or speed of walking to judge others by.  Their “walk with God” is uniquely for them and not me.  I need to remember that if it seems like someone is not progressing like I think they should.  Their walk with God is literally with God and not me; I’ll let God be the judge of how they will walk.

Aim Higher…Jesus Wants It That Way

Luke 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

I talked yesterday about what we are aiming at.  I really didn’t get into the reason why I chose these verses for these devotionals.  In verse 42, the thief on the cross was asking Jesus to remember him when Jesus goes to Heaven.  Jesus, seeing his faith, decided to take the thief’s request to another level.  He saw the thief’s faith in Him and told the thief that he would be with Him in Heaven!  Wow, what an upgrade!

The thief was aiming low and Jesus decided to take him higher!  I am feeling some conviction right now!  I am very much guilty of this through out my entire life.  I aimed lower than what I should have and in doing so, I limited God’s work in my life.  Do you know that God wants to challenge your faith in Him?  He wants you to stretch your capacity of faith in Him so that He can blow it up!  God is trying to show us that our faith in Him can never be too much!  I can never have too much faith in the Almighty, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  What can my feeble, little brain do to make the Almighty God nervous?  I know the answer….nothing!

When we start aiming at doing something for Christ, I believe Christ looks down at us and says “Is that all that you want to do?”  I think Christ would like to do more to us and through us if we just have enough faith to aim a little higher.  One more question, Where are you aiming at?

What Is Your Life?

Jas 4:14  Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

What an intriguing statement!  What a convicting statement!  Ask yourself that question, What IS your life?  This statement is in the present tense.  That does not meant what WAS your life; it means what IS your life.  I have met a lot of people who spend a lot of time beating themselves up for their past…guess what?  If you are saved by the Blood of Jesus, the Gift of Salvation, and the ONLY way to Heaven, then your history is simply that…..history.  With God, He wants to focus on the now and the future.  So let me ask you again, what IS your life?  Are you pleased with the way it is going…is God?  Are you pleased with your current status of “where you are going, and what you will do to get there”…is God?  Do you know where you are going and how you will get there?

There is good news…there is still time to change what is needed to change!  Someone does know what is needed and how to fulfill that which is needed!  That is Jesus Christ!  What a Wonderful, Awesome, Amazing, Magnificent, Superior, Ultimate, Heavenly, Perfect, Pure, Loving, Gracious, All-Knowing, Highest, and Patient Saviour!!!!!!  He is the answer to what we need!  While some men have some power, my Jesus has all power!!!  Have you accepted Him as your ONLY WAY to Heaven?  Guess what, it is free access to Heaven!  But it is only through the Almighty, Pure, and Precious Blood of Jesus!  Will you accept Him as your Saviour?  If you have, will you allow Him to salvage your life?  He can and wants to?  Last Question…..What is your Life?

The Other Tree

Joh 19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
Joh 19:18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
Joh 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Lesson #9

The tree must be watered in order to last through the season.

Lesson #10

The tree is decorated by it’s owner and has no choice in what is put on it.

Lesson #11

The Decorator knows what ornament or decorations to use to cover up the “gaps, imperfections, and blemishes” on the tree to make the tree look as if there was nothing wrong with the tree at all!

Lesson #12

The Christmas tree is decorated with lights for others to see when it is dark.

Lesson #13

Gifts are customarily at the foot of the Tree.

Lesson #14

The Most Important Decoration goes on top of the tree for all to see.

Lesson#15

There is one more Tree that I would like to talk about, and that is the tree that was used for our Saviour to die on.  This Tree:

-Took a tremendous amount of work to get ready for its purpose

-It was a different type of tree

-Had a much different purpose

-Was the most important tree of all time

It is the Cross that my Saviour was crucified on.  You see, you and I were the reasons why Jesus died on the cross.  He didn’t want to die, but did it because He and the Father loved us so much!  For a person to reject Christ as the only way to Heaven, is to make the cross void in their life.  God is a Jealous God and He does not like His only Begotten Son being taken for granted, voided out of our life, and made of no effect.  If you are not saved through the ONLY WAY to Heaven, then today can be that day for you.  You must simply:

1. Realize that you are a sinner:

 Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Because we sin, we come short of going to Heaven on our own, something supernatural has to happen.

2. There is a punishment for our sin:

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Because we sin, there is a punishment…death.  We all are going to die eventually.  It could be in the car today or tomorrow, or it can be when we are 80 years old and gray headed.  We WILL die someday!

Now, put step one and step two together and we find out that a sinner is going to die and they cannot go to Heaven!  I do not like this part, but it is still true.  Hard truth is still true, just because truth can be hard, the truth does not become void because it is hard.  Everyone must deal with this issue or this issue will deal you to Hell.

3. God made a supernatural way to Heaven for you and me….guess what, it is a gift!  This is the Good Part!

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God has a gift for you and me and it is eternal life in Heaven, All you have to do to receive that Gift is to accept it.  That is it, just take it!

4. You must ask in Faith to receive the Gift!

Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

In order to receive that Gift you must:

1. Ask Jesus to Save you

2. Ask in Faith.  With out faith it is impossible to please God.  You cannot earn it, you will never become perfect from doing good.  God never will ask you to do something that you can not do!  And you cannot earn your way to Heaven!  You must do what the Bible says and that is putting all of your faith in going to Heaven in Jesus Christ only !  Jesus really is the way!  He is the only way!

Salvation does not cost me or you anything, it’s cost can only be paid by Jesus Christ!  Will you make today the day of salvation?  I hope you do!  If you do, please reply to me and let me know!

The Finger Pointer!!

Romans 2:1   Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

We all have done it.  We will most likely do it today.  We all know someone in our lives that could make a living off judgement if it carried a paycheck.  Why is it so easy to judge?   Better yet…. Why is it so easy to do? Why are we so good at it?

I should say we think we are good at it.  We are really only good at hurting people’s feelings and getting right out of the way of God’s will in this part of our lives.  It  is true that some of our walk with Christ may just have something to do with people you don’t agree with or even worse…  DON’T LIKE.

As the scripture above states, this isn’t something we should over look.  I really believe this is the fall of most of our brothers and sisters.  The judgement of our self, first.  Then of others.  Then we get really crazy with it and began to be a sideline judge of what God may think of us or others.  We began to play who is more religious games.  Before we know it we are not even reading our bible to get closer to God.  We are just running around with it in our hand and forget who is really in charge of this life we are living.

Where is the answer you ask?  I believe it comes right down to where your heart is.  If your heart is still being controlled by you.  Then it will be impossible to not fall into the inexcusable.  If we just take a few seconds when judgement looms and think of what we are doing.  Give God the situation and work hard to find a way to be DIFFERENT in the situation.  Most of the time the actions you are about to judge in others are just a defense they have built.  They built it to defend themselves from judgement.  It is a never ending loop if someone doesn’t put a stop to it.  Be that person today please.  Retire from Finger Pointers of America and join a  movement that has eternal benefits.  Love on someone you would have judge today.  Start with YOU!!

Be The Horse

Luke 4:2   Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, He afterward hungered.

How long have you been tempted lately?

We get so overwhelmed by our current life issues it hinders our walk with Christ.  We get tunnel vision and sometimes may forget the bigger picture.  40 day is a very long time to suffer through something.  For most of us four minutes is a long time to suffer through anything.  Jesus after being tempted by the best of tempters and not eating along with that just waited in faith for his father to help him.  He stepped back in all them small moments and noticed the bigger picture.  Of course, he was God in a human body but I am sure it was still mentally challenging.

I would like to challenge everyone this morning to take another look at what is going on in your life today. No matter how it seems right now IT IS TEMPORARY.  That is one promise this guy can make.  EVERYTHING here on earth is temporary.  Now, here is when it gets interesting.  You are not a prisoner to situations of your life.  You are an active and willing ACTOR in it.  That’s RIGHT.  You can choose to be or do anything you have enough FAITH to do.  If you have faith in God to see you through.  I really mean some active faith.   You will handle your “40 day temptation” with much faster results by being the horse.  Lets stop acting like the blade stuck in the ground.

Lets make a promise to each other today.  No longer will I be the tool of the harvest.  I will be the harvest itself with Christ’s guidance.

It’s OK to Cry

Psa 34:5  They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

Psa 34:6  This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Psa 34:7  The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

We serve a Wonderful God!!  It never ceases to amaze me how much He loves me and cares for me.  It also is amazing to me how such an  Awesome God really cares about me and what I go through.  Today, know that God really, really, really, really, loves you and cares about what burdens you carry, and the things that cause you sorrow!

Just a quick note from verse 5, when they looked unto Him, they were lightened.  This word mean to be cheerful to the point that you feel lightened.  This is a HUGE benefit of looking unto Jesus.  He will settle, calm, and deliver you when the world around you is crashing in.  Also notice that is finishes with, “their faces were not ashamed.”  Their focus was on their Saviour and not themselves.  Therefor they did not have the pride issue that I talked about yesterday.  When pride is out of the way; I won’t be ashamed.

I can relate with verse 6!  This POOR man cried…OK, OK, the word “poor” is referring to the state of his circumstances & spirit.  The Psalmist is referring to his situation, not his financial portfolio.  OK, back the devotional…it is OK to cry.  Notice who the Psalmist is crying to.  He is crying to the Almighty God.  Even though he was keeping his focus on God in verse 4, the devil was trying to cause his focus to turn to something other than God.  The devil in this case, and in a lot of our cases, will try to use outside circumstances to scare you into looking away from God and doing something other than what God wants you to do.  Satan doesn’t care what you do, as long as it is not what God wants.

The Psalmist is showing us by example what every Christian should do when it seems like life is crashing in.  He looked unto Jesus and then cried unto Jesus.  Don’t fall for the lie that only babies cry.  God gave us tears to use and He always takes notice when we cry…

Psa 56:8  Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

Notice what God did when the Psalmist cried to Him.  He heard him.  God hears you when you cry.  It always gets God’s attention.  But that is not all, He also saved him out of all his troubles…troubles that the Psalmist did not start.  The Psalmist could not have changed the king’s heart or what the king (the one who was jealous of him and tried to kill him) was going to do, but please don’t forget that while the king had some power, God has all power!!!

Today, are there things in your life that are happening that you cannot control?  Pour out your heart to God.  It is OK to cry to God.  When you go to God like the Psalmist is doing in verse 6, you are re-affirming your faith in the Almighty…

Heb 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Tears have an amazing way of grabbing God’s attention.  Remember, God is in the “Saving” business!  He loves to show how mighty and powerful He is!  So go ahead and cry out to God, you just might be amazed at what He does!

No Trespassing!

Good Morning,

It was wonderful seeing you all this Sunday.  Look forward to seeing you at our mid week services.

Brother Ray Newmans

NO TRESPASSING

Psalms 90:12 – So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Last week I had a very interesting time with my work.  I was blessed by being awarded a large Section 8 housing complex to re-roof.  With this working blessing I am never short of people to share the GOOD NEWS with at these locations.  Very poor and defeated people who by all means need the love the Lord has plenty of.  Amazing as it may seem my devotional today has nothing to do with them 100 or so people living in that housing complex.  It has to do with the couple just behind this complex.  I will be as brief as I can be,  I know your time is limited.  Please let me paint the picture for you.

Old man in his 80s at least.  Hard looking man.  Just not the one you would pull up a chair with.  Life had been hard on him from what I could see.  His skin was sun beaten and cracked.  His laser like blue eyes shined through his leather colored face.  He has some health issues, but was doing well for the years he had been allowed to walk around on this earth.  I thought of how many presidents, how many fads, and how many hard times this guy had lived past.  Then…  watching him walk in his back door.  I wondered how many books he could write about the wonderful things he had experience in his life.  He had a modest house.  He wife was always in the kitchen window.  I seen him smile once.  Of course not at me.  It was when he walk out of the house to get in his chair on the back porch.  You could tell he loved her more at them moments then ever.

His home was older then the Section 8 complex.  So, that means he was there first and stayed even after his property value took a big hit from it.  He didn’t build a huge fence.  He didn’t have 7 blood hunger attack dog waiting for someone to walk his way.  All he had was a little sign stuck in the ground stating “NO TRESPASSING”.  Sometimes the wind would carry the paper off our shingle bundles into his yard.  I would stop at the sign.  Look at him.  He would tip his hat.  I would run over get the trash out of his yard and hurry back to the “my side” of the trespassing sign.  My crew all followed the same rules.  NO ONE went into his yard unless he was on his porch and gave us the go ahead.  Needless to say he spent a lot of time on his porch Monday giving us permission to enter and then making sure we exited his unguarded grounds.

The next day we moved on to a different building and his yard was not in danger of trash any longer.  I still noticed him on that porch about the same time every day.  Then I was snapped back into your building something mode and just got busy with all my daily worries of roofing.

That same evening two men broke into that OLD MAN’s home looking for pain pills.  They found what they broke in looking for… 7 pain pills.  The cost!  They beat that old man so bad he died the Friday morning.  His wife placed in the hospital with a life no one wants to live.  A life of loss.  I didn’t even know his name.  I let the NO TRESPASSING sign hold me back.  Evil used it for a target.  I didn’t “GO” because I thought I had plenty of time. I would catch him in the yard and get him talking.  That day will never happen!

All our days are numbered.  I promise you this right now… If I could have that Monday of last week back.  I would know his name.  I would have heard them stories.  I would have ask that very important question.  If you died today, would you go to HEAVEN?

Their is No Faithfulness in Their Mouth.

Psa 5:8  Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

Psa 5:9  For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

The Psalmist is begging God in these two verses to lead him in righteousness.  These two verses are one complete thought, they need each other to expound what is happening with the writer.  The enemies are hindering his walk in several ways.  They are confusing him by making his “way” not look straight.  This is one of their most used tactics to hindering you and me in doing God’s will.  They want you to be confused as to which direction you should take.  They like to cause confusion in God’s will for your life.  They want you to think that you cannot attain God’s purpose for your life.  They know that God can do mighty things through you and they believe it more than you do; that is why they try to stop you before you start.  Let me encourage you to continue on the Lord’s will even if it looks crooked to you as it did to the Psalmist in verse 8.  The Lord’s will is not crooked, but straight!
The next verse shows another tactic that they use.  They try to convince you that they have your best interests in mind for you…that only they understand you and only they know what is best for you.  Keep in mind what the Psalmist says in verse 8, there is not faithfulness in their mouth, and their inward part is very wickedness.  Their throat is an open grave.  With their mouth, they convince you to give up and die.  Remember…there is not faithfulness in their mouth.  Repeat these words to yourself when that temptation comes, when that discouragement comes from them, and when they try to stop you before you start…their is no faithfulness in their mouth.
Bro. CW’s challenge for today:

Don’t believe them over God!  What God starts, He will finish!

The Man in Verse Six

Psa 5:6  Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

Psa 5:7  But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

There are two types of people being mentioned in these verses.  The first one is a person that crafts and strategically arranges their words in order to harm and deceive.  The second person is one that comes to God’s house in the spirit of fear and mercy to worship God.  These two people are total opposites.
Notice what God says about the bloody and deceitful man in verse 6.  He will destroy him.  Strong words from a loving God.  Sometimes my flesh will try to rise up and do the actions of the first person.  I then have to realize that the things that bark like a dog, act like a dog, scratch like a dog, and lives like a dog……is probably a dog.  If I do not want to be the man in verse 6, then I should not act like him.  Even when I feel wronged or deceived, remember that God “has your back”.

Rom 12:19  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Pro 15:3  The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Notice what the man in verse 7 does, he goes where God is and worships Him.  When you feel like you have been wronged, remember that God will take care of you.  I remember the first time I felt that Joy was being mistreated.  It was in a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.  I totally reacted instead of being calm.  I was yelling and screaming and almost broke “some things”.  I will spare you the details and spare me the embarrassment by saying that when I felt my daughter’s pain and anguish; I was about to come “unglued” on some “folk”.  God, our Heavenly Father, is the same way.  When we come to Him instead of taking matters into our own hands, He will take care of us.

Bro. CW’s challenge for today:

Don’t re-act to evil and bloody men, go to where God is and let Him take care of you!
