Weekday devotionals for Christians

Fear is a Hand-Cuff

***Starting Today, the devotionals will come on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday***

Philippians 3:13-15
(13) Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
(14) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
(15) Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

The Last thing I would like to encourage you on this topic is:

  1. Don’t be afraid to fail!

You and I will continue to fail and make mistakes until the day we die.  Don’t let others fool you either…they fail a lot too!  I was asked by someone about 4 years ago, “How many more mistakes are you going to make?”  I laughed.  He was serious, and so was I.  While I was respectful to that person, that question from him shows that he thinks that he doesn’t make any mistakes.  My answer was “I will not stop making mistakes until I get to Heaven.”  By the way, NO ONE IS PERFECT!  Only Jesus was perfect.

When we free ourselves from making mistakes, we allow ourselves to get creative, become bold in our endeavors, and we GROW!  Fear has kept back many great ideas, great people, and great visions.  While this is not a license for folly, this should encourage us to grow and try new things in our life!  The only way to not make mistakes is to do nothing and doing nothing is a HUGE MISTAKE!  In my first few years of driving a vehicle, I made many mistakes.  In fact, I got into things called “Accidents.”  Do you know why they are called “Accidents?”  Because they were a mistake!  They are not called “On Purposes”, they are called “Accidents.”  One way to avoid getting into accidents in my vehicle is to not drive it.  But what is the point then of a vehicle if it is not driven?  I think Learning from my mistakes is the “insurance” for my accidents in life.  When I learn from my past mistakes, and I overcome the fear of making any future mistakes, I free myself up to succeed.

So, how about you?  Are you afraid to move forward?  Are you afraid of growth?  Are you afraid of making mistakes?  Don’t worry or be afraid of making mistakes, just learn from them and grow!

I’ll Beat Up Your Father!

231 verses that have faith in them with only 2 of these verses being in the Old Testament.  4 verses have the word Faithless.  78 verses that have the word faithful in them with only 28 verses in the Old Testament.  Below are the only two verses in the Old Testament that have the word faith in them:

(Deuteronomy 32:20)

And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.

(Habakkuk 2:4)

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Faith is a subject that we all struggle with from time to time.  It is a subject that keeps us all living uncomfortably because we are commanded to live by faith:

(Hebrews 11:6)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God is putting the pressure on us here to live by faith for Him!  God greatly loves deserves and desires our faith in Him!  I am reminded of a story of my oldest daughter in K-5 in school.  She had a toy that a boy wanted to play with.  She was not ready to give it to him as she was playing with it.  That little boy threatened to tell the teacher if she didn’t give it to her.  She didn’t budge.  Then he tried something extreme; he said, “If you don’t give it to me, I’ll beat up your daddy!”  With a tear in her eye and a broken heart she handed the toy over to him.  What she had here was a great lack of faith in her daddy!  When I heard this, I was a little insulted (to say the least).  I wanted to show my little baby how strong I was and that I could handle that little bully.  I was a little insulted that my baby had such a great lack of faith in her daddy!

Guess what, that is what God feels when we give in to doubt when life tries to bully us around.  God Almighty is up in Heaven and can defeat any and every enemy you face.  When we give in to “doubt”, we show a great misunderstanding in the One who created everything.  I know that God loves to shine and show us how strong He really is.  All we have to do is believe.

What do you do when life, (bills, health, job, faith giving, church, etc.) tries to threaten you?  I can assure you of one thing: keep your faith in God!
