God’s Original Intent

Genesis 1:26-31
(26) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
(27) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
(28) And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
(29) And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

In God’s Original Plan, one of things that I want to point out is that He wants us to have His image. Stop for a minute and let that sink in…..He wants us to look like Him! I looked up the word “image” in the Hebrew language and this is the definition:
image :
From an unused root meaning to shade; a phantom, that is, (figuratively) illusion, resemblance; hence a representative figure

God wants us to be a representative figure of Him. This started back when Adam was made. Not only did God want us to have a resemblance of Him, but also wants us to be His representative. It is like a father that makes his son to be the representative of their family business.
Can you see God’s heart in this decision? Can you see His love for us? Can you see God beaming with pride as His most precious creation is representing Him? He didn’t choose the strong and majestic horse to represent Him. He didn’t choose the powerful and ferocious lion to represent Him. He didn’t choose the beautiful peacock to represent His beauty. He didn’t choose the stately bull elephant to represent His power nor the delicate and unique humming bird.  God in His love and wisdom chose lowly man to be the illusion, the resemblance of Him!  In my opinion, God has created many wonderful, strong, and even some very intelligent animals that could have represented many of His attributes better than what a common human can; but He didn’t choose them.  God chose His last creation; His best creation to be His representative! I am pointing all of this out not because I want to inflate someone’s ego, but rather because to show the importance of God’s Original Intent in regards to man. This reminds me of a political position that was created in our country called an “Ambassador”.  The Ambassador is a person designated and set apart with the sole purpose to represent the President of the USA to a given country. That Ambassador would be the “go-between” between the political leaders in the country that he is appointed to and the President of the USA.
I have a few questions for us in regards to this understanding with God’s Original Intent. Would you or I conduct ourselves any different knowing what God’s Original Intent for us was? Would you look at Bible reading any different? Would you look at church attendance any different? Would you look at giving to the Lord any different? Would your prayer life change if you were the official spokesperson for the Lord? Would your conduct in this world change if you had the title of “Ambassador of the Lord”? I want to finish the devotional today with those thoughts and I encourage you to think on what you would do differently as we are God’s Ambassador to this world.
Proverbs 13:16-17
(16) Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
(17) A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
