Weekday devotionals for Christians

God Ain’t No Hater, He A Lover

Psalms 34:1 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

Psalms 34:16  The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

Psalms 34:17  The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

Psalms 34:18  The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalms 34:21  Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.

Psalms 34:22  The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Have you ever had anyone hate you?  Has any one ever told you that they hate you?  I have been told.  I am sure that I will hear it again from someone in the future.  It is not a good feeling to have someone express that feeling toward you.  When I was told by that individual that I am hated by them, it made me really think about that person’s influence on my life.  While many things come to my mind, I won’t take the time to give some potential possibilities of why I was hated.  I am certain that I was hated by more people than that one person that told me that they hated me.

Verse 21 states that those who hate the righteous shall be desolate.  The word hate in this verse is talking about how someone would hate an enemy.  Who is an enemy of you?  I am not speaking of human enemy; I am speaking of spiritual enemy.

Eph 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We have an enemy that hates us.  We cannot fight him with human weapons; we must use spiritual weapons.  In verse 21, it states that those who hate us will be desolate.  Think about places that are desolate.  They all are empty.  The definition of the word “desolate” has the words guilty, and punishment.  They will be guilty of being empty.  They will also be punished.

Verse 22 says the Lord redeemeth the soul of His servants.  The word redeemeth in the Hebrew definition means to preserve, to deliver.  The rest of the verse states that none that trust in Him will be desolate.  The word trust in the Hebrew definition, means to confide, to go to for refuge.  Those who run to God for refuge and put their confidence in Him, will not be empty, be guilty of punishment.  I love serving an all-mighty God!  Here are the last questions for the day: Who are you putting your confidence in?  Where do you go for refuge?  The answer to these questions will determine if you will be desolate.

They Said WHAT??

(Psalms 109:1) Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

(Psalms 109:2) For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

Who else will jump up with me and say AMEN on this one?  If you have been alive more the 35 seconds I am sure the above Psalms has a ringing tone of familiarity to you.   We see in verse 2 that someone is using words to harm someone else.   Not to get all dug in on Friday night about who, what, when, and where.  Lets just say you opened your bible today and ran over these two verses.  Ok.. it happen to me so I am sharing some of  the conviction here :-)..   Now I am sure you already have the names of the people doing it.  Now lets really talk about something interest.  Let just start a whole new paragraph to do it.

WHO have you done it to?  Whom in your life right now may be praying for “Hold not thy peace” to God about YOU.  I know. It is pretty twisted, but just saying.  The mouth is the most effective weapon of war in our homes, work places, and yes even churches.  I am sure most of you are glad you read the Bible differently then I do.  Good news is.  We.. Yes we, can all change.  How to we do it?  Lets look at this last verse.

(Psalms 109:4) For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

Guess that about solves it all.  What happens most of the time.  To combat the talk.  We join them.  Lets today join a different team and “give myself unto prayer” over all these issues.

Have a wonderful weekend folks.  See you Sunday 🙂

The Change!

Ephesians 3:20- Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Have you ever ask for something to change in your life?  I am sure  most of us have.  Now when we have the faith to believe and we receive the abundance that we asked for creates change in our life.  Most of the time some of the changes (aka BLESSINGS) if we are not careful may be received incorrectly.   Let me give you some examples.  NO LAUGHING AT ME… 🙂

We pray for our children to grow.    –  –   Then we have to sit in the DMV with them to get a learners permit (yes I lived through at least one heart attack this afternoon).

We pray for our relationships with others to grow.   –  –   Then we get to sit through some of the most heart breaking events over or with them.

We pray for our faith to increase.  – – Then we get put right smack in the middle of a place only God can help us.

So, where is all this going.  We need to remind ourselves that sometimes the changes we ask for may need to take us back a few steps to get a really good answered prayer.  I know that the above verse doesn’t mention much about change, but lets not forget that for things to become abundant the change must be walk in.

In A Submission Hold

Eph 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

One of the keys to every relationships for everyone is the biblical philosophy of submitting.  No one likes talking about it, but it is a vital need in every relationship.  The Lord Jesus started this Biblical mandate of submitting by dying on the cross.  He didn’t want to die that way but He did.  The question is, “will you follow the Lord’s example of submitting in your own personal relationships?”  A husband submits to God by loving his wife like Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it.  A wife submits to God by submitting to her husband just as if she would submit to the Lord.  While this may not be enjoyable, this is not an option given by God, it is  a command.  Do you want to be more Christ-like?  Christ submitted His will to the will of God the Father.  Christ obeyed even when He didn’t want to.  He submitted for the entire human race to benefit.  What about you?  Who will benefit from your submission?  Even if you don’t see who will, God still says to do it!

What Is Your Life?

Jas 4:14  Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

What an intriguing statement!  What a convicting statement!  Ask yourself that question, What IS your life?  This statement is in the present tense.  That does not meant what WAS your life; it means what IS your life.  I have met a lot of people who spend a lot of time beating themselves up for their past…guess what?  If you are saved by the Blood of Jesus, the Gift of Salvation, and the ONLY way to Heaven, then your history is simply that…..history.  With God, He wants to focus on the now and the future.  So let me ask you again, what IS your life?  Are you pleased with the way it is going…is God?  Are you pleased with your current status of “where you are going, and what you will do to get there”…is God?  Do you know where you are going and how you will get there?

There is good news…there is still time to change what is needed to change!  Someone does know what is needed and how to fulfill that which is needed!  That is Jesus Christ!  What a Wonderful, Awesome, Amazing, Magnificent, Superior, Ultimate, Heavenly, Perfect, Pure, Loving, Gracious, All-Knowing, Highest, and Patient Saviour!!!!!!  He is the answer to what we need!  While some men have some power, my Jesus has all power!!!  Have you accepted Him as your ONLY WAY to Heaven?  Guess what, it is free access to Heaven!  But it is only through the Almighty, Pure, and Precious Blood of Jesus!  Will you accept Him as your Saviour?  If you have, will you allow Him to salvage your life?  He can and wants to?  Last Question…..What is your Life?

King David’s Mistake

Psa 73:15 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
Psa 73:16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
Psa 73:17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

King David is one of my favorite characters in the Bible.  I like to read about him and learn what has happened in his life, and what he did to get the label of  “A man after God’s own heart.”  Sadly though, he made some mistakes and I want to learn from them.  One of those mistakes that he made is what I will be addressing today in these devotionals:  He did not live for the next generation.  Now I know this is a very tough accusation, but I believe it is a true statement.

King David lived for and served his own generation very well.  In fact, he won the hearts of the people away from the king when he was only a lad.  In fact, David was only trying to do right and was very loyal to the king and only wanted what was best for the king when he won the hearts of the people.  I will not tell you in this devotional why I believe that he lived only for his generation,  because it would take too long.  For the sake of time and length, let’s just go with the thought of living for the next generation.

Our national debt is 15.251 trillion dollars, as of yesterday at 2:58 pm (it grows by the minute).  That is a lot of money.  Our politicians do not want to do the right thing by our nation, so therefor they continue to add to and multiply our national debt.  Our children’s future is at stake here and we are squandering their future away by spending money today.  To put things in perspective, using the figure above, I will break down how bad our national debt is:

1. Each citizen’s share of the debt (including babies) is $48, 868.

2. The national debt starting on September 28, 2007, increases each day by 3.96 billion dollars…that is billion with a “b”

3. If 20 people at 10 years old will take the next 70 years and doing nothing but shop and spend money (that means no eating, sleeping, or taking breaks) for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

A. They will have to spend $29,846, 879 a day.

B. That is $497,447 an hour.

C. That is $8,290 a minute.

D. That is $138 a second.

to equal what the national debt is now!  That is NON-Stop shopping—24/7!

-Let’s just say that you need to rest and eat and sleep.  I will give 8 hours a day for this.  Let’s just say that you are feeling brave and you take this task on your own, and go strong for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 70 years non-stop, you would have to spend:

A. $596,937,575 a day…yes that is almost 600 million dollars a day!

B. $37,308,599 an hour for 16 hours.

C. $621,809 a minute

D. $10,363 a second

Are you up for a challenge?

Here is one more:

If you stop the national debt where it is and don’t create one more dollar of debt, and spend 10 million dollars a day… using the same 16 hours a day(that is 625,000 an hour), 7 days a week (no days off), it would take you…drum roll please:

4, 178.56 years to spend what the national debt is now.  Do you have that many years?

to be continued tomorrow

The Finger Pointer!!

Romans 2:1   Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

We all have done it.  We will most likely do it today.  We all know someone in our lives that could make a living off judgement if it carried a paycheck.  Why is it so easy to judge?   Better yet…. Why is it so easy to do? Why are we so good at it?

I should say we think we are good at it.  We are really only good at hurting people’s feelings and getting right out of the way of God’s will in this part of our lives.  It  is true that some of our walk with Christ may just have something to do with people you don’t agree with or even worse…  DON’T LIKE.

As the scripture above states, this isn’t something we should over look.  I really believe this is the fall of most of our brothers and sisters.  The judgement of our self, first.  Then of others.  Then we get really crazy with it and began to be a sideline judge of what God may think of us or others.  We began to play who is more religious games.  Before we know it we are not even reading our bible to get closer to God.  We are just running around with it in our hand and forget who is really in charge of this life we are living.

Where is the answer you ask?  I believe it comes right down to where your heart is.  If your heart is still being controlled by you.  Then it will be impossible to not fall into the inexcusable.  If we just take a few seconds when judgement looms and think of what we are doing.  Give God the situation and work hard to find a way to be DIFFERENT in the situation.  Most of the time the actions you are about to judge in others are just a defense they have built.  They built it to defend themselves from judgement.  It is a never ending loop if someone doesn’t put a stop to it.  Be that person today please.  Retire from Finger Pointers of America and join a  movement that has eternal benefits.  Love on someone you would have judge today.  Start with YOU!!

Wishing everyone a safe and Happy New Year.  May you receive God’s blessings this upcoming year with great joy.

Camping With the Angels

Psa 34:5  They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

Psa 34:6  This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Psa 34:7  The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

We serve a Wonderful God!!  It never ceases to amaze me how much He loves me and cares for me.  It also is amazing to me how such an  Awesome God really cares about me and what I go through.  Today, know that God really, really, really, really, loves you and cares about what burdens you carry, and the things that cause you sorrow!

The next verse in this chapter (Vs. 7) goes on to show one of the ways God “saved him out of all his troubles”.  Growing up, I was never the biggest kid in school, church, or the neighborhood where I played.  I am the youngest of 5 children!  Why does it matter that I was small growing up and the fact that I was the youngest of 5?  If you are the youngest you already know.  If you are not, then this explanation is for you:

I have 2 older brothers, and 2 older sisters.  While I was accused of being “babied” or “spoiled”, the sad reality was that I was the WWF wrestling victim growing up.  As my brothers watched the “very real” wrestling show, they would see new moves and submission holds that they had to try on me!  I often heard these words from my brothers, “Hey CW, come here.  I want to try out something.”  You don’t have to be smart to know that when I heard those words, I started running!  Then there is my big sister that would bully me…until I big enough to not let it happen (I finally reached that point last year…ha ha).  OK, so what am trying to say?

A life saving truth finally dawned on me; when I run, run to mom or dad.  It even occurred to me to make friends with the biggest, meanest guy at church or school.  This was my survival mechanism.  Spiritually, I already have the “friend that sticketh closer than a brother!”  I need to run to my Heavenly Father, he is All Powerful!  And He wrote verse 7 for a lot of people, but especially for me.  I need the Angel to camp round about me.  He will not only protect me, but deliver me.

Today, if you have not yet cried out to God, do it now.  He will send an Angel to protect and deliver you!  What is it in your life that you need deliverance and protection from?  Is anything too hard for God?

Jer 32:17  Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:

Jer 32:27  Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

So what are you waiting for?  Cry out to God, He Will save YOU!  He will send His Angel to help!

No Trespassing!

Good Morning,

It was wonderful seeing you all this Sunday.  Look forward to seeing you at our mid week services.

Brother Ray Newmans

NO TRESPASSING

Psalms 90:12 – So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Last week I had a very interesting time with my work.  I was blessed by being awarded a large Section 8 housing complex to re-roof.  With this working blessing I am never short of people to share the GOOD NEWS with at these locations.  Very poor and defeated people who by all means need the love the Lord has plenty of.  Amazing as it may seem my devotional today has nothing to do with them 100 or so people living in that housing complex.  It has to do with the couple just behind this complex.  I will be as brief as I can be,  I know your time is limited.  Please let me paint the picture for you.

Old man in his 80s at least.  Hard looking man.  Just not the one you would pull up a chair with.  Life had been hard on him from what I could see.  His skin was sun beaten and cracked.  His laser like blue eyes shined through his leather colored face.  He has some health issues, but was doing well for the years he had been allowed to walk around on this earth.  I thought of how many presidents, how many fads, and how many hard times this guy had lived past.  Then…  watching him walk in his back door.  I wondered how many books he could write about the wonderful things he had experience in his life.  He had a modest house.  He wife was always in the kitchen window.  I seen him smile once.  Of course not at me.  It was when he walk out of the house to get in his chair on the back porch.  You could tell he loved her more at them moments then ever.

His home was older then the Section 8 complex.  So, that means he was there first and stayed even after his property value took a big hit from it.  He didn’t build a huge fence.  He didn’t have 7 blood hunger attack dog waiting for someone to walk his way.  All he had was a little sign stuck in the ground stating “NO TRESPASSING”.  Sometimes the wind would carry the paper off our shingle bundles into his yard.  I would stop at the sign.  Look at him.  He would tip his hat.  I would run over get the trash out of his yard and hurry back to the “my side” of the trespassing sign.  My crew all followed the same rules.  NO ONE went into his yard unless he was on his porch and gave us the go ahead.  Needless to say he spent a lot of time on his porch Monday giving us permission to enter and then making sure we exited his unguarded grounds.

The next day we moved on to a different building and his yard was not in danger of trash any longer.  I still noticed him on that porch about the same time every day.  Then I was snapped back into your building something mode and just got busy with all my daily worries of roofing.

That same evening two men broke into that OLD MAN’s home looking for pain pills.  They found what they broke in looking for… 7 pain pills.  The cost!  They beat that old man so bad he died the Friday morning.  His wife placed in the hospital with a life no one wants to live.  A life of loss.  I didn’t even know his name.  I let the NO TRESPASSING sign hold me back.  Evil used it for a target.  I didn’t “GO” because I thought I had plenty of time. I would catch him in the yard and get him talking.  That day will never happen!

All our days are numbered.  I promise you this right now… If I could have that Monday of last week back.  I would know his name.  I would have heard them stories.  I would have ask that very important question.  If you died today, would you go to HEAVEN?

Who Are You?

Joh 10:24  Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

Joh 10:25  Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.

Joh 10:26  But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

Joh 10:27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Have you ever used the statement, “Put the jelly on the bottom shelf”?  The Jews, to whom Jesus was talking, were asking Jesus to simply tell them if He was THE CHRIST!  The Jews because of their unbelief, did not believe that He was the Christ.  Jesus’ response back to them was, “I told you already and you didn’t believe me.”  And He then goes on to repeat what He had previously said to them about His sheep hearing His voice.

The thought today is simply this: sometimes we get wrapped up in the things that do not matter and miss the miraculous things that are in front of our face.  I know this applies to me also.  The Jews were so wrapped up into their man made, religious rituals that it caused their faith to waiver even when their Saviour was right in front of them doing miraculous things.  If we as christians can focus more on the Bible and what God says to us, then we will notice more of the things that are happening around us.  Let’s not get distracted in religious things to miss out on the miracles that are taking place all around us!  God will always reveal Himself to you and me, will we be attentive enough to notice?
