Weekday devotionals for Christians

They Said WHAT??

(Psalms 109:1) Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

(Psalms 109:2) For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

Who else will jump up with me and say AMEN on this one?  If you have been alive more the 35 seconds I am sure the above Psalms has a ringing tone of familiarity to you.   We see in verse 2 that someone is using words to harm someone else.   Not to get all dug in on Friday night about who, what, when, and where.  Lets just say you opened your bible today and ran over these two verses.  Ok.. it happen to me so I am sharing some of  the conviction here :-)..   Now I am sure you already have the names of the people doing it.  Now lets really talk about something interest.  Let just start a whole new paragraph to do it.

WHO have you done it to?  Whom in your life right now may be praying for “Hold not thy peace” to God about YOU.  I know. It is pretty twisted, but just saying.  The mouth is the most effective weapon of war in our homes, work places, and yes even churches.  I am sure most of you are glad you read the Bible differently then I do.  Good news is.  We.. Yes we, can all change.  How to we do it?  Lets look at this last verse.

(Psalms 109:4) For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

Guess that about solves it all.  What happens most of the time.  To combat the talk.  We join them.  Lets today join a different team and “give myself unto prayer” over all these issues.

Have a wonderful weekend folks.  See you Sunday 🙂

The Change!

Ephesians 3:20- Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Have you ever ask for something to change in your life?  I am sure  most of us have.  Now when we have the faith to believe and we receive the abundance that we asked for creates change in our life.  Most of the time some of the changes (aka BLESSINGS) if we are not careful may be received incorrectly.   Let me give you some examples.  NO LAUGHING AT ME… 🙂

We pray for our children to grow.    –  –   Then we have to sit in the DMV with them to get a learners permit (yes I lived through at least one heart attack this afternoon).

We pray for our relationships with others to grow.   –  –   Then we get to sit through some of the most heart breaking events over or with them.

We pray for our faith to increase.  – – Then we get put right smack in the middle of a place only God can help us.

So, where is all this going.  We need to remind ourselves that sometimes the changes we ask for may need to take us back a few steps to get a really good answered prayer.  I know that the above verse doesn’t mention much about change, but lets not forget that for things to become abundant the change must be walk in.

The Finger Pointer!!

Romans 2:1   Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

We all have done it.  We will most likely do it today.  We all know someone in our lives that could make a living off judgement if it carried a paycheck.  Why is it so easy to judge?   Better yet…. Why is it so easy to do? Why are we so good at it?

I should say we think we are good at it.  We are really only good at hurting people’s feelings and getting right out of the way of God’s will in this part of our lives.  It  is true that some of our walk with Christ may just have something to do with people you don’t agree with or even worse…  DON’T LIKE.

As the scripture above states, this isn’t something we should over look.  I really believe this is the fall of most of our brothers and sisters.  The judgement of our self, first.  Then of others.  Then we get really crazy with it and began to be a sideline judge of what God may think of us or others.  We began to play who is more religious games.  Before we know it we are not even reading our bible to get closer to God.  We are just running around with it in our hand and forget who is really in charge of this life we are living.

Where is the answer you ask?  I believe it comes right down to where your heart is.  If your heart is still being controlled by you.  Then it will be impossible to not fall into the inexcusable.  If we just take a few seconds when judgement looms and think of what we are doing.  Give God the situation and work hard to find a way to be DIFFERENT in the situation.  Most of the time the actions you are about to judge in others are just a defense they have built.  They built it to defend themselves from judgement.  It is a never ending loop if someone doesn’t put a stop to it.  Be that person today please.  Retire from Finger Pointers of America and join a  movement that has eternal benefits.  Love on someone you would have judge today.  Start with YOU!!

Be The Horse

Luke 4:2   Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, He afterward hungered.

How long have you been tempted lately?

We get so overwhelmed by our current life issues it hinders our walk with Christ.  We get tunnel vision and sometimes may forget the bigger picture.  40 day is a very long time to suffer through something.  For most of us four minutes is a long time to suffer through anything.  Jesus after being tempted by the best of tempters and not eating along with that just waited in faith for his father to help him.  He stepped back in all them small moments and noticed the bigger picture.  Of course, he was God in a human body but I am sure it was still mentally challenging.

I would like to challenge everyone this morning to take another look at what is going on in your life today. No matter how it seems right now IT IS TEMPORARY.  That is one promise this guy can make.  EVERYTHING here on earth is temporary.  Now, here is when it gets interesting.  You are not a prisoner to situations of your life.  You are an active and willing ACTOR in it.  That’s RIGHT.  You can choose to be or do anything you have enough FAITH to do.  If you have faith in God to see you through.  I really mean some active faith.   You will handle your “40 day temptation” with much faster results by being the horse.  Lets stop acting like the blade stuck in the ground.

Lets make a promise to each other today.  No longer will I be the tool of the harvest.  I will be the harvest itself with Christ’s guidance.

God Needs An Empty Cup

Eph 5:18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Mat 5:6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Last week I talked about hungering after righteousness.  I want to point out another aspect of being filled.  Instead of using food and the human stomach to illustrate this devotion, I want to use a cup.  It is a good thing to hunger after righteousness.  It is wonderful to thirst for things that are Godly, but there are some things that hinder the “filling up” that we so desire for God to do to us and for us.

If  we are to get filled from God we must then make room for God to fill us up:

1. We must empty ourselves of our own ideas of God.  We have a Bible that tells us about God, but there is also a lot of areas that we do not understand about God.  Sometimes our pre-conceived ideas of God hinder and limit what God is able to do through us and to us.

2. We must empty ourselves of our own pride.  Pride gets in the way of a lot of things.  One of the most important things that it hinders is the work of God in our lives.

Pro 16:18  Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Our pride motivates us to do some things that we will eventually regret.  But for some reason, we always allow our pride to dictate our action.  We must empty ourselves of this if we intend for God to use us and fill us.

3. We must empty ourselves of our own ways.  Many times….most of the time our own solution gets in the way of God’s solution.  We want God to come through for us all of the time, but we do not empty our selves of our own solutions and therefor God will not fill us with His plan.

How bad do you really want to be filled?  God can only fill you according to the space that He is given to fill.  Will you be able to empty yourself so that God can fill you?  The choice is yours…what will you do with it?

Enjoy it Now While You Can

Psa 1:4  The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

Psa 1:5  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

Growing up in church I have heard all kinds of preaching, and one of the things that I have heard several times in sermons was that when you come across a “therefore” in the Bible; I need to look and see what it is there for.  Verse 5 starts out with a “therefore”.  Looking back to the previous verses, we understand that the ungodly were being talked about.  The “therefore” is continuing about the ungodly and the results of being ungodly.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement.  At first glance this seems like the “judgement” would be a bad thing, but it is not.  This judgement is indicating a judgement for good.  It means that the ungodly will not be with the christians when the “crowns of glory” are being given out by Jesus.  This is one of the reasons why the Lord Jesus does not want us to worry what the ungodly are doing by comparing ourselves with them.  When the Bible says,

2Co 10:12  For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

God does not want us to compare ourselves to any other for many reasons; one important reason is because our “judgements” will be completely different.  It is very easy to fall into the trap of comparing, especially when it seems others are rubbing there “stuff, things, or money” in your face.  One thing that I have found that helps my spirit is; when someone is trying to show off or gloat, I have to remind myself that their judgement will be different than mine.  A 10 talent christian will be judged by his 10 talents that were God-given.  While a 5 talent christian will be judged with his 5 God-given talents; likewise the 1 talent christian will be judged according to his 1 talent.  If you are saved, your judgement will be different than the unsaved.  The unsaved may be relishing in the sin and trying to rub it in your face, but remember, their judgement is coming.

No Trespassing!

Good Morning,

It was wonderful seeing you all this Sunday.  Look forward to seeing you at our mid week services.

Brother Ray Newmans

NO TRESPASSING

Psalms 90:12 – So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Last week I had a very interesting time with my work.  I was blessed by being awarded a large Section 8 housing complex to re-roof.  With this working blessing I am never short of people to share the GOOD NEWS with at these locations.  Very poor and defeated people who by all means need the love the Lord has plenty of.  Amazing as it may seem my devotional today has nothing to do with them 100 or so people living in that housing complex.  It has to do with the couple just behind this complex.  I will be as brief as I can be,  I know your time is limited.  Please let me paint the picture for you.

Old man in his 80s at least.  Hard looking man.  Just not the one you would pull up a chair with.  Life had been hard on him from what I could see.  His skin was sun beaten and cracked.  His laser like blue eyes shined through his leather colored face.  He has some health issues, but was doing well for the years he had been allowed to walk around on this earth.  I thought of how many presidents, how many fads, and how many hard times this guy had lived past.  Then…  watching him walk in his back door.  I wondered how many books he could write about the wonderful things he had experience in his life.  He had a modest house.  He wife was always in the kitchen window.  I seen him smile once.  Of course not at me.  It was when he walk out of the house to get in his chair on the back porch.  You could tell he loved her more at them moments then ever.

His home was older then the Section 8 complex.  So, that means he was there first and stayed even after his property value took a big hit from it.  He didn’t build a huge fence.  He didn’t have 7 blood hunger attack dog waiting for someone to walk his way.  All he had was a little sign stuck in the ground stating “NO TRESPASSING”.  Sometimes the wind would carry the paper off our shingle bundles into his yard.  I would stop at the sign.  Look at him.  He would tip his hat.  I would run over get the trash out of his yard and hurry back to the “my side” of the trespassing sign.  My crew all followed the same rules.  NO ONE went into his yard unless he was on his porch and gave us the go ahead.  Needless to say he spent a lot of time on his porch Monday giving us permission to enter and then making sure we exited his unguarded grounds.

The next day we moved on to a different building and his yard was not in danger of trash any longer.  I still noticed him on that porch about the same time every day.  Then I was snapped back into your building something mode and just got busy with all my daily worries of roofing.

That same evening two men broke into that OLD MAN’s home looking for pain pills.  They found what they broke in looking for… 7 pain pills.  The cost!  They beat that old man so bad he died the Friday morning.  His wife placed in the hospital with a life no one wants to live.  A life of loss.  I didn’t even know his name.  I let the NO TRESPASSING sign hold me back.  Evil used it for a target.  I didn’t “GO” because I thought I had plenty of time. I would catch him in the yard and get him talking.  That day will never happen!

All our days are numbered.  I promise you this right now… If I could have that Monday of last week back.  I would know his name.  I would have heard them stories.  I would have ask that very important question.  If you died today, would you go to HEAVEN?

Let Go… and Let God

Psa 5:8  Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

Psa 5:9  For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

Psa 5:10  Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

The feeling of revenge is a destructive and seductive feeling.  When a person allows those thoughts into their thinking and allows the vengeful thoughts to dominate their thinking, they buy in to a very destructive pattern of thoughts that leads to destructive behavior.  And before they know it, they start doing the same actions that the wicked one that hurt him did.
We are reminded in verse 10 that revenge belongs to God.

Rom 12:19  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

God, being perfect and without sin, can rightfully give the necessary acts of destruction to those who need it.  Look at the statements in verse 10:
1. Destroy thou them
2. Let them fall by their own counsels
3. Cast them out into the multitude of their transgressions.
The Psalmist is admitting to God the realization of the end result of the wicked.  He also realizes whom vengeance belongs to.  Can you imagine the emotion he was feeling?  He must have had some strong feelings for him to make those 3 statements in verse 10.  When in Doubt…Don’t.  We need to get to the place that our faith lets go of the circumstances and lets God do what needs to be done.  We have to trust Him enough to do what is right in the situation.
Let God handle it; He will do better than you, and you won’t get punished for it either.

Their is No Faithfulness in Their Mouth.

The Psalmist is begging God in these two verses to lead him in righteousness.  These two verses are one complete thought, they need each other to expound what is happening with the writer.  The enemies are hindering his walk in several ways.  They are confusing him by making his “way” not look straight.  This is one of their most used tactics to hindering you and me in doing God’s will.  They want you to be confused as to which direction you should take.  They like to cause confusion in God’s will for your life.  They want you to think that you cannot attain God’s purpose for your life.  They know that God can do mighty things through you and they believe it more than you do; that is why they try to stop you before you start.  Let me encourage you to continue on the Lord’s will even if it looks crooked to you as it did to the Psalmist in verse 8.  The Lord’s will is not crooked, but straight!
The next verse shows another tactic that they use.  They try to convince you that they have your best interests in mind for you…that only they understand you and only they know what is best for you.  Keep in mind what the Psalmist says in verse 8, there is not faithfulness in their mouth, and their inward part is very wickedness.  Their throat is an open grave.  With their mouth, they convince you to give up and die.  Remember…there is not faithfulness in their mouth.  Repeat these words to yourself when that temptation comes, when that discouragement comes from them, and when they try to stop you before you start…their is no faithfulness in their mouth.
Bro. CW’s challenge for today:

Don’t believe them over God!  What God starts, He will finish!

The Man in Verse Six

Psa 5:6  Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

Psa 5:7  But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

There are two types of people being mentioned in these verses.  The first one is a person that crafts and strategically arranges their words in order to harm and deceive.  The second person is one that comes to God’s house in the spirit of fear and mercy to worship God.  These two people are total opposites.
Notice what God says about the bloody and deceitful man in verse 6.  He will destroy him.  Strong words from a loving God.  Sometimes my flesh will try to rise up and do the actions of the first person.  I then have to realize that the things that bark like a dog, act like a dog, scratch like a dog, and lives like a dog……is probably a dog.  If I do not want to be the man in verse 6, then I should not act like him.  Even when I feel wronged or deceived, remember that God “has your back”.

Rom 12:19  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Pro 15:3  The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Notice what the man in verse 7 does, he goes where God is and worships Him.  When you feel like you have been wronged, remember that God will take care of you.  I remember the first time I felt that Joy was being mistreated.  It was in a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.  I totally reacted instead of being calm.  I was yelling and screaming and almost broke “some things”.  I will spare you the details and spare me the embarrassment by saying that when I felt my daughter’s pain and anguish; I was about to come “unglued” on some “folk”.  God, our Heavenly Father, is the same way.  When we come to Him instead of taking matters into our own hands, He will take care of us.

Bro. CW’s challenge for today:

Don’t re-act to evil and bloody men, go to where God is and let Him take care of you!
