A Nice Slice of Peace

Joshua 24:28  So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.

Joshua 24:31  And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.

This passage really jumped out at me.  Well, actually both of these passages jumped out at me.  I get really encouraged when I look at the passage in Joshua 24.  The children of Israel have finished going through the Promised Land and fighting the battles that the Lord brought their way.  I want to point out a few ideas that “jump off the page” at me:

1. The Lord brought them to battles.

2. They saw the Lord fight for them many times.

3. They Had Many Years of Peace in Canaan Land.  This was the end result of those that followed Joshua’s leadership (it was Joshua following what God told him to do)…peace.  Finally, the peaceful life! was heard throughout the land among the new inhabitants of Canaan land.

So many people get discouraged and quit on God before they get to that peaceful place in the promised land.  People struggle and have a hard time while in the battle, not realizing that God wants them there to grow their faith, endurance, toughness, and appreciation.  I go several times throughout the week and do church visits.  Some of those visits that I go to, I try to encourage the people because they are going through a hard time (usually caused by themselves).  Sometimes the situation that they are in came because of something out of their control.  I always walk away from those visits thanking God for a boring, Peaceful life.  How about you?  Are you ready for some peace?  It only comes from God.  Remember, God has it coming…will you wait long enough and endure long enough to see that Blessed Peace come into your life?

I don’t know about you, but I can always enjoy a nice slice of Peace!

Peace in the Midst of the Storm

Psa 73:26  My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Psa 73:27  For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
Psa 73:28  But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

Have you ever had a day where it seemed like everything that is normally good is not being good?  Maybe the kids are acting up, maybe your friend is upset with you, maybe your energy to do something is gone, maybe you just feel discouraged.  If you have emotions at all, you will have days that it seems that your emotions will cause you to be down.  Have you ever wondered how to get out of the “rut” that it seems that you are in?

Verse 28 is good medicine for all of us to take.  It is good for me to draw near to God.  Regardless of your circumstances, it is good for you to draw near to God.  Guess what?  He wants you to draw near to Him!  He loves you and me and loves to spend time with us!  Have you heard this statement, “Laughter is good for the heart” ?  Laughter is good for your health; God is even better!  Why is it that our sin nature fights its hardest to keep us from getting close to God when it does our physical body very well?

Remember that when you feel down whether physically, spiritually, or emotionally; run to God.  God will help you physically to feel better; but most important than “feeling better” is getting close to God.  You will have Joy, Strength, Security, Love, and His undivided attention!  Run to God, it will do you good!
