Perfect Peace

Isaiah 26:3  Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

2Ki 6:16  And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

2Ki 6:17  And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

The verse at top really captured my thoughts last night and today.  In 2 Kings 6, there is a story of an army coming to take Elisha by force to the King of Persia.  This is not a good thing seeing that the king wanted to kill Elisha.  The army surrounded the city that Elisha and his servant were in.  By all human accounts, Elisha was doomed.  His servant was scared and verse 16 tells us what Elisha’s response was.  Verse 17 tells us why Elisha was in “perfect peace”.  He was on the Lord’s side…the winning side.

This story in 2Kings and the verse in Isaiah remind me what I need to do when life seems scary.  Elisha’s servant could not see that protection was there for him and therefor the servant was scared to the point of reacting.  The devil comes to us and wants to scare us into leaving the protection that God has for us.  Satan realizes that he cannot hurt us while we are in God’s protection.  What he does is try to get us to jump out of the will and protection of God so that he can harm us.  Satan cannot hurt us when we are under God’s protection because God will not let him, but he can and will try his best to scare us.

We are reminded that the one who “keeps his mind stayed on Christ” will be kept in perfect peace.  Don’t you want perfect peace?  I do!  The word “keep” means to protect.  It is the root word for “keeper” like a goal keeper in the sport of soccer.  The goal keeper protects the goal from any ball penetrating it and scoring.  The one who keeps his mind in Christ is the one who invests into his own perfect peace.  Perfect Peace is really up to me, but I must keep my mind stayed on Christ and my faith in Him!  What will you do when hard times come your way?  Will you keep your mind stayed on Christ?  You will be glad if you do!
