Weekday devotionals for Christians

Spend Wisely

Psa 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Jer 24:7  And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

Joh 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
I love these 3 scriptures!  In fact, I claim Psalms 51:10 just about every day.  I want God to continue to create in me a clean heart and a renewed spirit.  When I interact in this world, my heart needs to be cleansed and my spirit needs to be renewed.  I believe God gives me a desire to be with Him, especially after my new heart and renewed spirit.  Where I spend that desire is up to me.

One of the wonderful things about God is that He gives us a free will.  We are not made to love God, He allows us to come to Him willingly.  Think about it, don’t you want those to whom you love to come to you willingly and not out of necessity?  I like to compare the desire that I get from God with money.  When I get paid, where do I spend that money and how do I spend it? There are places and things that are a money pit.  Then there are places that bring about a return and give me money back.

Spiritually, when I spend my desire on God, He gives it back to me to keep investing into Him.  It is a wonderful cycle that keeps on going over and over again.  Not only does He give back, but He gives back in abundance.  When I spend my desire on things that really don’t matter, then that desire is gone forever.  I do not get a return on my investment.  Have you ever wondered why some people feel empty?  It is because they are spending their desire in all the wrong places.  Those places will leave you feeling empty, remorseful, and full of regret.

My question to you is, “Where are you spending your desire”?  God wants you and loves you.  Will you be willing to invest your life and desire into God’s things?  You will not be disappointed if you do!
