How Do You Walk?

Psalms 84:6-12

(6) Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.
(7) They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.
(8) O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.
(9) Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.
(10) For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
(11) For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
(12) O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

We see in the last portion of this chapter:
• vs. 6 the valley of Baca
• vs. 7 they go from strength to strength
• vs. 8 Prayer to the Lord God of hosts
• vs. 9 His reminder to God that God is his shield
• vs. 10 He brags on God’s dwelling places
• vs. 11 Bragging that God is a sun and shield. He is showing us that God will not withhold any good thing if we walk uprightly.
• vs. 12 Blessed is the man that trusteth in God

There is a lot here… The valley of Baca is a place, a low spot of weeping…a weeping place. Through such, by reason of their dry and barren condition, the worshippers often had to pass to Jerusalem. As they might become wells, or fountains, or pools, supplied by refreshing rain, so the grace of God, by the exercises of His worship, refreshes and revives the hearts of His people, so that for sorrows they have “rivers of delight” (Psa_36:8; Psa_46:4).

When we pray, we remind ourselves (and we need it) and God that He is our shield. The simple act of prayer shows that we need God and are dependent on Him. He is a great shield and He can defend better than you can!!!!

The place where God is, is the best place for any Christian to be! O that we would find out that He is our refuge and strength! That we would find out and dwell there with Him and be refreshed, strengthened, and encouraged! The sun up in the sky, 93 million miles away, warms us and refreshes our countenance. The bright sun shining outside is almost a sure way to brighten our day and our spirit! It is hard for me to be inside, when the bright sun is shining outside! We miss out on God’s refreshing and strength when we do not spend time with Him.

No good thing will God withhold to them that walk uprightly. Do not worry about those sinners who seem like they get away with everything. Their day is coming! But those who walk uprightly in the Lord, will not be fearful or have to manipulate their way out of anything because of the good that comes their way! The wicked sinners will always keep stacking lies and sin on top of sin while they keep running away from God.

The chapter closes out with a reminder that God’s blessings will always be on those who trust in God. Don’t you want that? I want God’s blessings all the time. The way to continuously receive them is to continuously trust in God! I know you can do it! It might be difficult in times of testing, but God always takes care of His people and makes it worth their while!
